The Committee

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

In January Christie Hudson and Katy Asher invited me to participate in the Committee - an art project that exists as "a think tank for creative trajectories and problem solving with potential for paradigm shift." I was invited to join the team and help collaborate with their first project. Our project is to help Rudy, of the M.O.S.T., identify his vision for his food cart and ice cream service, Junior Ambassadors, and create a plan for him that will help him implement his vision practically. In a sense, we are a type of consultant group.

We have met together and hammered out a prototype gameboard that will tell us more what Rudy is most interested in doing, it will offer Rudy suggestions for improving his business which he can choose to implement or not, and it will inform us as to how to create a working time line for Rudy's business. Just last week we gave Rudy the gameboard. He will follow the open-instructions and we will observe how he makes his decisions regarding his food cart.

You can read more about The Committee, including more about our processes, at Katy's blog here, here, and here.

Becoming a consultant of some kind is something that has become increasingly interesting to me. Through consulting, I believe that I can implement what I've been learning and exploring (the value and use of time, leisure, work, relationships, and value itself) in a more-direct way than through symbolic, performative acts. Art does not need to become totally utilitarian for me, but for now, it seems appropriate.
